Building Resilience
All around in our culture today, stress levels are soaring and pressures are increasing. We need to start becoming more aware of how this is negatively effecting our teens and what we can do to not only decrease these levels but to also provide better methods of coping — to build resilience. The conversation needs to start within families, schools, medical practices and the larger community — since all of these areas can contribute to the well-being of our teens. We need to work together to support each other in affecting change that will allow our teens to flourish and grow as they transition into adulthood.
Community of Solutions (COS), a northern Virginia volunteer organization, was formed to facilitate these conversations within the whole community and to take action to better prepare our teens for the challenges and stress they face in our current environment. COS believes this collaboration will provide stronger solutions and resources not only teens but for parents, teachers, and school administrators.

What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you’re mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance, without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience.
“You may encounter many defeats but you must not be defeated.”
It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.
Your “I can” is more important than your IQ.
